It was during yesterday afternoon, 27 of October, that acceptance emails started to arrive at one of the most prestigious dance competitions in the world. The Lausanne Prize was created in 1973, é gerido pela Foundation in favor of Choreographic Art, and is aimed at young dancers looking to pursue a professional career in classical ballet, many of its former star winners from major companies around the world.
Our Conservatory, last September, sent applications from 5 students: António Casalinho (17), Francisco Gomes (17), Giulio Diligente (17), Laura Viola (16) e Maia Roberts (15). Between the 399 applications received by the Prix de Lausanne, of 318 girls and 81 boys, the 5 students from the International Conservatory of Ballet and Dance Annarella Sanchez were selected for the range of 82 dancers who will compete at the beginning of next year 2021 in Montreux.
António Casalinho, Francisco Gomes and Laura Viola are the only Portuguese selected, among a total of 6 Portuguese candidates (4 boys and 2 girls), Giulio Diligente is the only Italian among 12 Italian candidates (9 girls and 3 boys) and Maia Roberts the only Briton among the 9 candidates from the United Kingdom (5 girls and 4 boys).
Besides that, the International Conservatory of Ballet and Dance Annarella Sanchez is the only school to represent Portugal in the competition.
The 49th Edition of the Prix de Lausanne will take place 31 January and 7 February 2021 in Montreux, Switzerland, being the final on the day 6 of February.
